Sacramento (SMF) Airport Guide
Address: 6900 Airport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95837
Sacramento (SMF) Airport is the airport that serves the Sacramento, California region. It’s located 10 miles from downtown Sacramento. This airport handles mostly domestic flights, though there are also flights to and from Mexico City and Guadalajara. SMF Airport is served by a number of airlines, including Southwest, Delta, United, JetBlue, Alaska and Aeromexico.
The Best Thing About SMF Airport
One of the nicest things about this airport is that it’s small and usually less crowded than larger airports. Because it only has two terminals, it’s almost impossible to get lost. While Sacramento does have some traffic, it’s much less congested than cities such as San Francisco or Los Angeles. All of these factors mean that you can be relaxed about getting to the airport and catching your flight.
The Worst Thing About SMF Airport
While SMF is smaller and mellower than many airports, there’s a downside to this as well. You can’t get direct flights to many destinations. If you’re going to Europe, Asia, Australia or other international cities, you’ll have to catch a connecting flight at another airport. On the other hand, if you’re going to San Francisco, LA, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Chicago or another city that offers direct service from SMF, it’s very convenient. The major drawback to this airport is that it’s not really suitable for international travelers.
Interesting and Fun Thing to do at SMF Airport
SMF has a variety of amenities and things to do while waiting for your flight. The airport provides free WiFi with plenty of power outlets. There are baby care facilities by women’s restrooms. If you want to get a massage before or after your flight, you can stop at the Massage Bar. They also sell accessories you might want for the plane, such as a neck pillow.
Must-try Restaurants, Bars and Shops
Both Terminal A and Terminal B have a variety of shops and restaurants. If you shop around, you may be able to find a nice gift or practical item at a discount.
If you’re waiting in Terminal A, you could stop in the Iron Horse Tavern, a casual bar and restaurant with a diverse menu. If you’re in the mood for Mexican specialties at a reasonable price, La Taqueria serves burritos, tacos and other traditional favorites. If you need a cup of coffee, there’s Starbucks on the lower level, which stays open until 9 PM.
Shopping options in Terminal A include InMotion Entertainment for electronic gadgets and accessories. This is a good place to pick up a good set of headphones for your flight and beyond. For fashion jewelry at a reasonable cost, try Forever Silver on the upper level. Golfers can stock up on gear and accessories at the PGA Tour Shop.
Terminal B has Cafeteria 15L, which offers American comfort food. This terminal has its own Mexican eatery, Dos Coyotes, a locally owned restaurant. The Esquire Grill boasts fresh and local American cuisine. If you want a slice of pizza or a whole pie, Famiglia is the place to go. The Gateway Bar has sandwiches and snacks as well as beer, wine and cocktails.
For shopping in Terminal B, Brighton has jewelry, handbags and other accessories for women. If you want to pick up a nice piece of fashion jewelry for yourself or as a gift, Erwin Pearl has a good selection. If you’re looking for an interesting gift or home accessory, Visions of Eden is an attractive store with a good selection of items.
