Eppley Airfield: Omaha (OMA) Airport Guide

Address: 4501 Abbott Drive, #2300, Omaha, NE 68110

A Few Tips for Travelers Headed To Omaha Airport

Omaha Airport (OMA), also known as Eppley Airfield is about three miles east of the center of Omaha, Nebraska. This is the largest airport in the Cornhusker State, and it services around 4.2 million passengers a year. If you are ever going to be traveling through OMA in the near future, here are a few tips you should keep in mind to prepare for your visit.

Be Sure To Get An Omaha Steak

Well, you are in Omaha after all. If Omaha is not your final destination, then you owe it to yourself to at least get one authentic Omaha steak. Luckily for you, there are Omaha Steaks stores in the North and South Terminals. In those stores you will find a great array of steaks to purchase. Interestingly, after the restrictions of fluids on airplanes, sales at this store dramatically slowed down. But, as reported by NBC, Omaha Steaks now offers customers either free shipping or a free ice pack if you purchase $50 worth of steaks. Even if they are not on discount when you arrive in Omaha, it is worth it to get at least one authentic Omaha steak to try before you die. There have been many interesting tales of people packing and storing their precious steaks from this airport, and once you’ve tasted one for yourself you will understand why.

No Place To Sleep, No Place to Stay

One bad thing about OMA is that all of the chairs have armrests. If you need some shut eye, you will need to lay on the floor. Also, if you are expecting to book a hotel at OMA, you are also out of luck. OMA has no internal hotels. OMA can only offer you service to hotels in the region. Some of the closest hotels nearby include Sleep Inn, Super 8 Motel, Country Inn & Suites, and Candlewood Suites.

Stop In At Kracky McGee’s

Kracky McGee’s is a unique bar located in Concourse A Gateway of OMA. People who have stopped by this bar have always had a good time, and many reviews can be found on Kracky McGee’s Facebook page. The service is great, and the company is even better. If you have a long layover, the hours will just fly by at this wonderful bar.

Food At OMA

For those who love fine dining in airports, you are out of luck at OMA. But for those who love low-priced quick meals, you will have quite a few options. In the main food court of OMA’s North Terminal you will find standard fast-food fare: KFC, Taco Bell, Godfather’s Pizza, and Blimpie. These places won't cost you too much, and they provide a quick meal sure to satisfy your hunger. You will also find Scooter’s Coffee, which is open 24/7. So, if you are looking for a deal on food, you will find one in OMA.

Be Wary of Pay Phones

There was a strange report that a traveller at OMA was charged $17.20 in international call fees due to a glitch in OMA's pay phones. If you are going to use a pay phone (and, let’s be honest, who even uses those things anymore) just be sure you check the price on your receipt. Also, you do have free WiFi all around the airport, so getting on the Internet should be no problem.
