SFO reports smooth Thanksgiving

SFO airport reported a small rise in the number of travelers through its airport this year compared to last. An increase that surprises many that believed increased flight charges would see a like for like reduction.

SFO Parking Costs May Rise

San Francisco International airport is planning to raise by a dollar a day, from January, the cost of long term parking. This is another price hike from SFO which is having to bear the brunt of major outlay on terminal modernisation and a depressed travel market. The rise is still to be approved by the AIprorts board of advisors.

“All fees are reviewed annually and charged based on cost recovery or market rates,” airport spokesman Michael McCarron said. “The airport’s (SFO) long-term parking rate has not been increased since July 2008. Parking demand at the long-term garage continues to be strong. The garage fills up and is closed for periods of time on holiday weekends.”

Its also thought that a new fee will be levied on operators of off airport parking. A spokesperson for Airport Parking Reservations said: “As an intermediary between parking lot operators and customers we expect to be able to offer the same great value that we always have.”

SFO & Newark Airport To Benefit From United/Continental Merger

The merger of United and Continental airlines for $3 billion on the 2nd May has created the worlds largest airline and has expanded the number of flights to Europe out of Newark Airport.

The new airline which will be called simply ‘United’ will shift Delta Airlines into 2nd place as the major carrier to Europe. According to some experts this may have an adverse impact on customers as less competition could equate to higher air fares.

United will serve over 59 countries and 370 airports.

Newark airport will grow in importance as an international gateway, particularly to Europe whilst SFO (San Francisco airport) will also significantly increase its number of international flights.
