I park in the main garage opposite the new terminal about 45 to 50 times a year. It generally works pretty well. When you arrive you have choice of using your credit card to enter (make sure it is the same one you intend to use when you exit) or take a paper ticket. Some time ago there was discussion about using the FasTrak system but that never happened. When you exit you either slide in the credit card you used to enter or the paper ticket and then make payment in an acceptable form. Sometimes the ticket machines fail or, worse, you lose your ticket. When that happens you must call for an attendant for help and that can take 5 or so minutes for someone to show up. You also need to summon an attendant if you have handicap rights and want to pay the discounted rate. Generally speaking the lot is well maintained and safe. I just wish they would get on with providing the FasTrak option.
The San Jose parking situation is a mess, prepare to be perplexed and confused. Lots frequently fill up with no obvious solution provided by the airport short of parking in the most expensive hourly lots. They used to have 2 larger lots that have been closed, I have to believe this is all about money. A sloppy mess with no accountability - welcome to Silicon Valley.
