The Airport

As one of the newest airports in the United States, the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is also recognised as being one of the most efficient. It is also sometimes called ‘Metro Airport’ or Detroit Metropolitan Airport for short. It is a very busy airport and is considered to be one of the largest air transportation hubs not just in the United States, but globally. The airport is located around 20 miles from the city of Detroit, Michigan and it deals with an estimated 32.4 million passengers every year. It has six long runways and is a major hub for multiple airlines, offering both domestic and international flights.

Detroit Airport Parking

DTW Airport parking is an important issue to consider if you are planning on driving to and from the airport. Detroit Metropolitan Airport offers a range of airport parking facilities, or if you prefer you can also choose to park in one of the privately owned off-site lots close to the airport. Details are outlined further: In terms of on-airport parking, as well as regular parking spaces, you will also find handicap parking spaces on every level. You can also find long and short term parking depending on how long your trip is, plus valet parking if you prefer. McNamara Terminal Parking Garage is the main on-site parking facility for Metro Airport, and there are also cell phone lots for people picking up passengers from the airport. There are also multiple off-site parking lots close to DTW. These can offer substantial discounts on parking and include both long and short term parking options. The off-site lots feature 24 hour security and a shuttle bus to take you from the lot to the airport and back again at the end of your trip. You can reserve your space online before you are due to travel.

Detroit Airport Transportation

There are a variety of rental car agencies at the airport if you need to rent a car to get to your final destination. There are also public transport options, including buses and taxis. The vast majority of transport services at the airport are located on level 4 of the McNamara parking garage, at the Ground Transportation Center. When it comes to getting around at the airport, there are free airport shuttles – known as ‘parking lot’ vans – that transport passengers between the terminals and to the various on-site parking options. There are also independent airport shuttle services that offer pick-ups from your home, hotel or office in the Detroit area. One option is to go for a shared-ride service. This is often the cheapest option, but if you are traveling with a large party then you may prefer to use a private van. If you want to take a bus to the surrounding Detroit area, you can do so by catching one near the Ground Transportation Center. If you prefer, there are also taxi and limo services that can take you to nearby locations.

Detroit Airport Hotels

If you are planning to stay overnight either before or after your flight, then it will help to know what’s available in terms of airport hotels. ParkSleepFly offer DTW Hotels with free parking and shuttle transportation. There are also other hotels available that are located close to the airport and, while they don’t offer their own shuttles, it is possible to book good independent airport shuttle services. With a good range of hotels to choose from, passengers are sure to find something that is suitable for them.

Detroit Airport Terminals

Detroit Metropolitan Airport has two passenger terminals: the North Terminal and McNamara Terminal. Passengers can move between them by making use of the airport shuttle bus. Both terminals offer amenities such as food and drink, retail outlets and currency exchanges, among other things. Which terminal you fly from will depend on which airline you are using and where you are traveling to, so you should make sure you know which one you need before you fly. You will find a DTW terminal map to the right.

DTW is a popular airport with a good range of facilities in terms of amenities, hotels, on-site and off-site airport parking, transportation and more, which means that passengers are sure to find everything they need.
