The Best Airports for Not Flying

We don’t know anyone who gets excited about going to the airport because of all the delicious food and fun things to do.

That said, when I was in college and regularly flying in and out of Pittsburgh Airport, the plethora of mall-stores and decent eateries made it a nice place to get bumped.

Check out this list of five US airports that are doing a good job on the shops-and-eateries front. (Even a couple of lounges with free WiFi and pet parks! Get it together, Pittsburgh!)

JFK, LAX, & More To Get Expedited Passenger Screening

Not everything on the TSA’s blog is style over substance (see our last post.)

Back in November, we talked about some of the ways the TSA was considering making security screening more efficient for the lowest-risk travelers. (Read the original post here.)

After a pilot program at several airports in the fall, the PreCheck program will roll out to some of the nation’s busiest hubs in early 2012.

These kinds of changes may be just what the travel industry needs after a very bumpy few years.

DFW is Getting a Makeover

2011 was a big year for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

With service added by Quantas, Emirates, Jet Blue, and Spirit Airlines, increased service from recent addition Virgin America, and the start of a 7-year, $1.9 million terminal renovation project, Texas travelers are going to have a lot to clap for in the coming years.

No news about additional parking… Just another reason to book ahead!

Parking Pinch at Houston Hobby

As we mentioned a month ago, parking at Houston Hobby Airport – already tight due to the appeal of lower fares – got even tighter recently, thanks to construction aimed at repairing the upper-level ramp.

Frustrated passengers are driving in circles looking for spaces for as long as 30 minutes, and facing fines for getting creative about what is and isn’t a space.¬†Even nearby Avistar was overbooked during Thanksgiving, unable to handle the overflow.

You’ll be happy to know that we’ve got nine lots to choose from on our site, two of which can be booked right from our Houston Hobby Airport page. So plan ahead, and get that 30 minutes back!

Spotlight on Dallas Fort Worth

We’ve seen two interesting articles lately about the exciting goings on at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW).

First, the airport has been recognized by the Airport Council International for its excellent customer service for the fifth year in a row.

Second, there are big plans afoot for major improvements – think roaming check-in agents with tablet computers taking care of everything without the hassle of waiting in line, and then directing you to the shortest security queue, so you can breeze through the swanky terminal on your way to boarding a double-decker Airbus A380 for a trip to Dubai.
