Summer Air Travel Numbers Expected To Be Up in 2011

The Air Transport Association Of America (ATA) has predicted an extra 206 million air passengers will travel from June through August this year, a small but significant 1.5% increase on last years figures. The ATA puts much of the increase down to good value air fares which are almost identical to 2000 levels.

The ATA also predicts US carriers will carry a record breaking 26 million passengers on international flights.

Despite the increase the numbers are still way below 2007 summer figures which was a record breaking year and which many believe is indicative of a general increase in air travel which has been tempered by recession.
